Community Service Projects

COMMUNITY SERVICE PROEJCTS

Our emerging leaders get involved in serving their communities from the time they enter our program. Our emerging leaders identify service projects based on the needs of each community and conduct those projects across different tribes to build a spirit of unity. Service projects have included:

Adult Literacy & Children Educational & Recreational Camps

Less than half of the adult population in Sierra Leone can read and write. Our emerging leaders offer adult literacy classes, provide learning and recreational activities for children and teach free after-school math and English.

Water Well Repair

There is no access to clean water in most remote villages. Waterborne diseases are still number one reason for death in most African communities. People use standing water for cooking, cleaning themselves, and washing dishes. Our emerging leaders repair and construct water wells to improve quality of life in their communities.

Solar Installation

Access to education means more than school supplies and buildings. Many children in West Africa live in homes without electricity. After morning classes and afternoon farm work, they are often unable to do their homework. Our emerging leaders install solar generators in village schools so that children can return to school to study at night. These generators have also expanded the usage of classrooms beyond daylight hours for community use, transforming schools into community centers for villages.

Computer Training

Most students in West Africa have never used a computer or accessed the internet. Our emerging leaders have not used computers before they enter our program. They learn basic and advanced computer skills, and they teach those skills to younger students later when they become comfortable.
