Our very first college student, Ibrahim, officially had his undergraduate commencement in February 2016. Everyone at Families Without Borders was incredibly proud that he was rewarded for his hard work and received his degree. The founder, Terri Khonsari, participated in-person and tearfully expressed happiness for her “Sierra Leonean son.” Families Without Borders and Terri Khonsari were recognized during the assembly for the support they have provided to the University of Makeni and for the number of students they sponsor.
The Ambassador of China, Zhao Yanbo, was the key note speaker and Bishop, Natale Paganelli (recently appointed by Pop Francis) congratulated the students upon receiving their degrees.
A luncheon for special guests and faculty members followed the commencement. Terri attended along with Bishop Paganelli, Ambassador Zhao Yanbo, Father Joe (President of Unimak) and other honorary guests.
Another special celebration was held for Ibrahim after the commencement that took place in front of our technology center. There were over 100 guests including Ibrahim’s family and friends, his neighbors who supported him prior to Families Without Borders, the rest of the FWB college students and street children who receive support from our students. FWB students cooked for everyone and there was much music and dancing.
